"Freedom for the wolves has often meant death to the sheep."

"Freedom for the wolves has often meant death to the sheep." ~ Isaiah Berlin

It's over. No conviction.

Yesterday, another day from the defense, Another fail.

They blathered angrily for three of their allowed 16  hours, talking to their client through the T.V.

Their "defense" included falsities and red herrings:

But Hillary! But what about....! I had to work during the proceedings. I got into my car, and listened to the radio on my way to my patient. The defense was playing out-of-context clip after clip after clip of Democrats, including Hillary, using the word "fight" as lawmakers do to describe their hard work. I went in, saw my patient, and when I got back in my car nearly an hour later, they defense was playing clip after clip after clip of Democrats using the word "fight" as lawmakers do to describe their hard work. No, your client's actions were not simply political rhetoric, nor was it protected under the First Amendment.

Damn the Process! When you have no defense, attack the process. It's just a lot of hot air. There's been bipartisan agreement on the process. Sit down.

The Big Lie! They brought up *sigh* Georgia again. At this point, it's just getting embarrassing. Just leave it!

But Antifa! Again, false equivalents and lies. No, anti-facist agitators were not involved in the January 6 Insurrection. The protests in Oregon have nothing to do with the events inside the Capitol building on January 6.

The Dems just hate our client! Well, yes, but again, not relevant. Your client perverted his authority, inflamed a mob, failed to uphold his oath, and put lives and our Democracy in peril.

He didn't like that it happened! No, the evidence is clear that he was not horrified, sad, concerned, or any other feeling than satisfied and gleeful. If he can even feel glee. As a sociopath, it's doubtful that he can feel even that.

The defense attorneys just came off as incompetent. It's obvious that they are third-string attorneys. We knew that, as it was difficult for the accused to even find a team to represent him. Their primary objective, we can assume, was not to defend him but to litigate his grievances and give good TV face.

Mr. van der Veen especially seemed incompetent. He was frequently angry and belligerent, and he actually got laughed at when he suggested that depositions would be held in his "office in Phillydelphia." He was out of his depth, and in fact, when you go to his firm's website, you see his specialty in "Phillydelphia" is:
Mr. van der Veen considers it his life’s work to be the voice of injured accident victims and an advocate for the accused. With a tremendous track record of success, he is one of the premier Philadelphia personal injury attorney you can trust to fight for you.

I can just see him down there at Mar-a-Lago. "Get me the best ambulance chaser in the greater Philly area!"

After a little scuffle over witnesses, the attorneys provided their closing arguments today. Again, the House Managers were powerful and effective. The defense hauled out their tired whataboutisms once again.

The Senators, eager to go home for a week, voted 43 to 57 on his guilt, acquitting the former president*. Remember those 43 sheep when they are up for reelection.

I fear for the future of our nation.

Tying to "overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution."

"We the people are the rightful masters of both Congress and the courts, not to overthrow the Constitution but to overthrow the men who pervert the Constitution." --Abraham Lincoln (Happy Birthday, President Lincoln.)

Impeachment Dos: The trial begins.

Congress conducted three days of the Impeachment Trial so far.

Day One: This was really a pre-trial day. After noise from Rand Paul and the vote about the Constitutionality of the trial, the Senate took a vote after arguments about the Constitutionality question. The House Managers did a great job presenting a powerful set of initial evidence, including this video about the events of January 6.

The defense completely flailed in their presentation. I was only able to listen to snippets, but it was obvious the defense was under water. They practically folded on the first statement, that the managers did such a good job that the defense changed their planned presentation. They rambled and contradicted themselves, and at times seemed to make arguments for the prosecution.

In the end, the Senate voted 56 to 44 that the trial is constitutional. Six GOP Senators, most surprisingly Sen. Bill Cassidy from deep red Louisiana, along with five moderate Republicans (Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, Sen. Mitt Romney, R-Utah, Sen. Ben Sasse, R-Neb, and Sen. Pat Toomey, R-Penn) joined the 50 Democrats to affirm proceeding under the Constitution.

Days Two and Three were the House Managers' days to present their case, and they were organized, elegant, concise, factual, and impactful. They clearly showed how ***** began to cultivate his base months ago, first by telegraphing that the only way he could lose is through a "rigged election." He started that shit months before the election, as the managers showed. The second way he cultivated the crowd to do violence was to endorse violence himself, all throughout his term. And he assembled the crowd, sending a "Save the Date" 18 days before the event.

The managers used audio/visuals very powerfully, sharing new footage from Capitol security cameras and animated maps showing the movements of the mob as well as the Members of Congress and other players. We at home – and some of the Senators – learned more about the events that day. I say "some" because some of those Despicables thumbed through other paperwork, read, put their feet up on their desks, or otherwise didn't pay attention. What would happen to a jury who did this in another courtroom?

We learned that Officer Goodwin had ushered Senator Mitt Romney away from the mob after Romney had unwittingly ran toward them. Sen. Romney had not known that the officer who helped him was Officer Goodwin, who of course we had all learned heroically used himself as a decoy to lead the mob away from the Senate chambers as Senators were still being evacuated.

Here is what the managers showed. It's powerful. If you missed it, please take the time to watch. It is important to bear witness to the events that day.

The House Managers were effective in their use of charging documents and TV interviews from some of the insurrectionists who made it plain that they came expressly at the explicit request of "their president" and were specifically doing his bidding. Videos showing them reading his live tweets during the insurrection really drove the point home. The defendant summoned them, assembled them, directed them, and did not ever condemn them.

The managers illustrated that *****'s behaviors before, during, and after clearly were meant to incite violence and disrupt the U.S. government. There's just no question about it.

Today, the defense presents its case.  The attorneys for the defendant have 16 hours to present. There really is no defense, but the thought is that they will continue to go after the constitutionality, the process, their go-to false equivalency, and the argument of free speech.

To this last, Lead Manager Raskin (D-MD) made a smoldering analogy as a pre-buttal to their lame defense. Supreme Court Justice Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. once famously said, “you can’t shout fire in a crowded theater." Raskin applied this analogy to January 6, saying, “This case is much worse than someone who shouted fire in a crowded theater. It’s more like a case where the town fire chief, who is paid to put out fires, sends a mob, not to yell fire in a crowded theater, but to actually set the theater on fire. And who then, when the fire alarms go off and the calls start flooding into the fire department, does nothing but sit back, encourage the mob to continue its rampage and watch the fire spread on TV.”

It's been widely speculated that there aren't enough Repug Senators to convict. Yet, Pollyanna LSR refuses to speculate until the trial is over.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell has signaled to his folks that the vote should be one of "conscience," and that he hasn't made up his mind yet. This is pretty big. The number two Republican in the Senate, Sen. John Thune (SD) has also indicated that he is keeping an open mind. Thune said that the House Managers are "effective," "compelling," and they are "connecting the dots." If these two flip, it could lead to a cascade of followers.

But, most analysts are not Pollyannas but are realists. And political expediency is more powerful than conscience within the GOP brain.

It boggles the mind, though. Is it political expediency anyway? The GOP is divided right now, and at death's door. They've allowed extremists into the fold. Why not come down on the side of the sane Republicans? Why not try to rise from these ashes and rebuild their party into something admirable again?

And why do they think if they are loyal to ***** that he will ever be loyal to them? What about him sending the mob toward his Vice President to assassinate him speaks to them and makes them think he won't do the same to them?

The evidence presented these past two days is a powerful piece in our nation's public record. Those Senators who vote to acquit will be remembered for their cowardice and complicity.

Random other thoughts:
  • It's not an impartial jury. Besides the sycophant worms such as Senators Cruz and Hawley, we saw other jury members putting their feet up and reading, and generally shrugging at the proceedings. It's shameful. Can't they even pretend for a moment to be thoughtful?
  • The Wall Street Journal editorial board wrote a scathing piece. I include it here; sorry for the paywall. But here is an analysis of it. It's pretty big for the conservative publication to come down so hard. But you know, I wonder if the QAnon shaman and his ilk read the WSJ?
  • In fact, it appears many of them don't even vote. The insurrectionists committed federal crimes in their effort to Stop the Steal of the presidential election. But lookie here: CNN analyzed voting records of those arrested, found that many of them didn't even freaking vote. As I watched their wretched acts that day, I wondered if they would even know their own Representative if they came face to face. I seriously doubt it.
  • The defense suggested that there is another remedy to convicting at impeachment: arrest and prosecute under the regular justice system. Good idea, counselors! What's stopping us?
  • Mitch McConnell: Dude, you aren't up for reelection for six more years. A presidency and a half. You'll be 84 years old then. Let your legacy include this vote. Come on, grow a pair and vote to convict this cancer!

"Justice delayed is justice denied."

"Justice delayed is justice denied." - William E. Gladstone

Ah you know I couldn't stay away for long. As I had promised impeachment trial dishing, so shall you receive it!

The Impeachment
The House swiftly impeached ***** for the second time, taking just one week after the riots to impeach on one article: Incitement of Insurrection.  Though the timing was fraught as he had just another week in office, things are still moving relatively swiftly.

The Agreement
The House and the Senate have agreed on a timeline. The Article of Impeachment was delivered on January 25, just a few days after the new Senate was sworn in. The House and Senate agreed that the accused shall have two weeks to prepare a defense. In the interim, the Senate can get to other business, namely confirming President Biden's (oh, how sweet the words!) cabinet and working to pass an additional COVID relief bill. The trial is scheduled to begin in one week, on Wednesday, February 9.

The Defense
What defense?

It's been a bit of difficulty for ***** to round up lawyers who will take the case. The attorneys from the first impeachment trial passed on the opportunity, and then, just days before the trial is set to begin, the defendant's entire legal team of five attorneys quit. Yup. Walked away. Apparently, the defendant wished the defense to be a carrying-on of the false election fraud narrative. Sounds like more of a tutorial than a defense. Allies suggest a more sensible strategy of calling into question the constitutionality of an impeachment trial for a former president, but that didn't sit well with Individual-1. No, he'd rather the trial be a megaphone for his continued lies about how the election was stolen from him. Please. Shut up!

The team was headed by Butch Bowers, a pretty respected South Carolina attorney. Today it was reported by Axios that, besides the disagreement on the trajectory of the defense, part of the dust-up between them and ***** was over money. Their client just didn't want to pay them much. ***** had offered $250,000, but the attorneys estimated $3 million to mount a proper defense. After some negotiations, there was apparently an agreement of $1 million, but that still got *****'s tightey whiteys in a twist. Dude, you fleeced your minions out of millions upon millions of dollars for your "defense fund." You won't pay crackerjack lawyers what they need to mount a plausible defense in two weeks' time? You dumb!

This week, he rounded up two new lawyers to represent him. They are, uhhh, ...well, not ones I would choose. Bruce Castor, as a D.A., declined to prosecute Bill Cosby in Pennsylvania, and David Schoen represented the 100% odious Roger Stone and believes the conspiracy theory that Jeffery Epstein was murdered. In an interview with The Atlanta Jewish Times, Schoen said, “I represented all sorts of reputed mobster figures: alleged head of Russian mafia in this country, Israeli mafia and two Italian bosses, as well a guy the government claimed was the biggest mafioso in the world.” Sounds like the perfect match.

By the way, guys? Get your money up front

The Prosecution
The House Managers, led by House Judiciary Committee member Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), are ready to bring their case. They've filed an 80-page brief outlining their arguments. They plainly state that ***** is "singularly responsible" for the January 6 Insurrection.

The House Managers have not ruled out witness testimony, but it doesn't seem that they are keen on calling witnesses. One possible witness? The horned idiot himself, Jacob Chansley. His lawyer says that he has agreed to testify. The Repugs definitely don't want him to testify. Truthfully, I'm not sure that the prosecution would want him either. He's a nut. He's deep, deep into the QAnon shithole. Credible witness? Doubtful. Still, it would be great TV.

It would be good to have some witnesses testify, though. How about the members of Congress who aided and abetted the insurrection? How about the ones whose lives were threatened? Oh, oops, that's the whole jury. The details of the trial schedule and rules have yet to be worked out.

The Jury
Forty-five Repug Senators, goaded by Sen. Rand Paul (KY), have already voted that the impeachment trial is unconstitutional. It's been widely speculated that this is a preview of the final vote tally.

The thought has been out there, specifically by Robert Reich, for the Senate to adopt rules that allow for secret votes. If that were the case, perhaps more Senators will find their cajones and vote to convict. In the end, it isn't likely to happen.

The Trial
The trial is set to begin on Wednesday, February 9. It is expected to run 6 days a week. It is speculated that it will be a quick trial. As for format, it's likely to be molded after the last impeachment trial. During that one as well as Clinton's, each side was given 24 hours to present their arguments, followed by 16 hours of questions by the Senate. The last impeachment trial lasted less than three weeks.

The Constitution states, "When the President of the United States is tried, the Chief Justice shall preside." But since the accused is the ex-president, Chief Justice Roberts has passed the torch to Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-VT), who serves as the president pro tempore of the Senate.

You can bet that LSR will be watching and listening to as much as possible! Who's with me?

Are you ready for jusssstice?!

LSRs don't die....

....they just fade away. Maybe. Possibly. Depending on the news cycle.

Our national nightmare is over. We've come to the end of an error. I've written 211 posts over the last four years! I've covered lies, crimes, lies, corruption, lies, outrageous behaviors, and lies. I covered neurological symptoms. I covered the Mueller investigation, two impeachments, and one insurrection. I've felt despair and and I've felt hope. Much hope.

And here we are! We resisted. We persisted. Our Democratic Republic is intact.

I know that our fight isn't over, but with the end of this Error, we can all feel like it's a job well done as we look toward the future.

I've thought a lot about continuing Little Sister Resister, and at this point I don't think I will, at least in a regular way. There are a few reasons. First, this platform was a way for me to simply cope with the outrageous situation we found ourselves in. Secondly, I wanted to document this moment in history. Someday my grandkids will be able to look back on this era and see what I saw. In winding down this blog, I will be very much enjoying not thinking about the workings of the government... Every. Single. Day.

I'm lucky to have representation that reflects my views, from the local level, up to the state of California, to my Representative in the U.S. House of Representatives, to both of my U.S. Senators, to the President of the United States of America. I trust them all to do what I want. Now that the Dems have control of the House and the Senate, we're in a good spot. What a relief to just let them all do their jobs and trust they are doing it right.

The last reason for pausing LSR is that I want to work on my other project, which documents another fight against fascism. Jack's Cache is another blog, in which I am scanning and transcribing my father's letters home as he fought the Nazis during WWII. I've got a good start on it, but there are hundreds of letters to go.

BUT that is not to say I'll be less participatory. There is a lot of work to be done, and I shall be helping. My focus will remain on voting rights. Stacey Abrams with her Fair Fight has been such an inspiration. I want to help Black people speak their truth through voting. I also care deeply about our justice system and want to work toward making it fair. Black lives matter!

All that being said, never say never. There is still much ahead that will define the era of the 45th presidential administration. There is a second impeachment trial to cover, not to mention criminal prosecutions. LSR will be bringing it all here!

I hope that during the last four years I've not only informed, but inspired. If just one person marched, wrote their U.S. Representative, voted, or made that donation, then all my hours at the keyboard were worth it.

I want to offer great thanks to all of my supporters, particularly these people. My big sister resister, Pagrs, who sent me lots to read and who fed me a constant stream of nicknames for *****. Ever notice that unless it was in a quote, I never used his name? Also sister resister Karenone who proofed just about every single one of these posts. She was invaluable. Thanks to June, who kept me in resister mugs. Also big thanks to sisters resisters BobBIE! and Anne, who I could count on to send me articles and funnies, read my posts, and be outraged with me. Thanks to all of my readers for sharing this journey through the upside down.

Hope Restored

Welcome

President Joe Biden

and

Vice President Kamala Harris!

It is a wonderful day. I bawled my eyes out all morning. Happy tears of relief, hope, pride, humility, and a renewed sense of determination.

Lady Gaga, JLo, and Garth Brooks moved us with their songs. Seeing Vice President Kamala Harris taking her oath was overwhelming.

President Biden gave a damn good speech. He spoke of unity. And indeed, there was much unity evident all around the Capitol today. All branches of government, both parties, Americans from coast to coast, were united in our mission today to move the country forward.

It's a good thing that President Biden spoke first. Ms. Amanda Gorman was a tough act to follow.

Let us now move forward together, hope restored.

Mary Poppins's Bag

The unpacking of the events of January 6 feels like Mary Poppins's bag. We just keep pulling more and more and more out.

The Insurrection.
Details about the events on January 6 continue to emerge. Every day comes the headline: "It was worse than we thought and it could've been a lot worse."

Here's just a few stories that we read this week that illustrate the horrors that our lawmakers and police faced.

It's now clear that Vice President Pence was seconds away from being found by the murderous mob. He was just 100 feet away seconds before Officer Goodman led the mob away from the Senate chamber. Pence was moved from the Senate floor to an office with his wife and daughter, but once there, he refused twice to move to a more secure location. The third time the Secret Service did not ask but whisked him and his family away to a more secure room before the mob could find them.

It's shocking to read how the police held off the mob. This article is upsetting, but it's important to know what happened. Badly outnumbered, the police tried their best to hold off the insurrectionists, at great peril to their own safety.

Two of the most badly injured were Officer Daniel Hodge and Officer Michael Fanone. Hodge was the one crushed and beaten, stuck between two doors. You remember the mob brutally beating Fanone with sticks and a flagpole outside the building. I hope that someday they and all of the courageous officers can have an official commendation for their service to our nation.

By the way, suspects in both of those officers assaults have been arrested. Here is information about the thug who assaulted Officer Hodge and here is a story about the scumbag who beat Officer Fanone. Here is another article about the two officers and their colleague Officer Christina Laury.

There is more evidence that the insurrectionists had assistance from the inside. Here is a new video in which they discuss floor plans. One woman who is still outside uses a bullhorn to describe the layout and how to access other parts of the building. She says, "Guys I've been in the other room...."

Suspiciously, it appears that the panic button was removed from Rep. Ayanna Pressley's (D-MA) office. It was found so when Pressley and her staff barricaded themselves into her office. There is an investigation underway.

Another of the squad, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) was afraid for her life during the insurrection. She made a video describing her traumatizing experience. She does not describe specifics, but states she and other members were close to being killed. She also states that she did not feel safe being with other members of Congress while they were together in a secure room. Someday we'll hear the details of her trauma.

The terrorists arrived well-armed. The police have seized a large number and variety of weapons. It was obvious that the mob went to the Capitol to cause violence and injury. It's amazing that there weren't more deaths.

Some of the insurrectionists are hiding under "press" cover. This, along with all the rest of it, is an affront to our orderly society. Give me a break. Their organization is called "Murder the Media." Journalists? Just sickening.

Here is another first-hand account by a (real) journalist, written right after the insurrection.

The Abettors.
Sycophants
Rudy Giuliani had riled up the crowd during the rally by saying, "Let's have a trial by combat!" New York State has launched a disbarment inquiry. I wonder if he'll be disbarred before the impeachment trial? I was sort of hoping to watch the Rudy Clown Counsel Show. Besides disbarment, he needs to be indicted. Rep. Mo Brooks (AL) was also in front of the crowd getting them going.

Members of Congress
We know that many in Congress gave voice to the lies that fueled the insurrection, but it's becoming more apparent that Members of Congress directly helped plan the insurrection. One of the main scum-sucking architects of the insurrection, Ali Alexander, has named three Repug MoC as having aided: Reps. Andy Biggs (AZ), Mo Brooks (AL) and Paul A. Gosar (AZ). Of course, other Representatives need to be investigated as well. There's an investigation underway into Rep. Mikie Shirrell's (D-NJ) observations of suspicious tours being made on January 5. This is such a sad part of the story. It's hard to think that elected representatives would do such a thing. I hope that they are censured and ejected from the House and called to bear consequences by the law.

Side note: when I was watching the House proceedings that morning, I saw Rep. Gosar declare his objection to Arizona's certification. He was so nervous that he stuttered. It was so apparent to me that in the moment, I even Googled if he is a stutterer. Now I wonder just why he was so nervous.

Veterans, Active Military, and Police
Also deeply disheartening is that more than a few in the mob were current or former police and military. White supremacy is everywhere. It's angering. Every single one of them took an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. They received training in order to fulfill that oath, and they took that training to the Capitol to try to destroy it. They each need to be brought to justice. It's just too much to bear. Here are some articles about them.

The Heroes.
There were many heroes that day. The jounalists covering the debates who kept taking notes as their lives were being threatened; the Members of Congress themselves; the police outside and inside the building. Other heroes are emerging.

Geeks save the day! A hacker who goes by "donk_enby" worked fast to archive nearly all of Parler's content since it was launched. This included conversations about the insurrection plans, as well as videos and photos during the riots, complete with metadata such as time and GPS coordinates. donk_enby assures us that all the info she gathered was publicly available. Go, donk! A grateful nation thanks you.

Similarly, props to the people behind Sedition Tracker, your one-stop shop for insurrection investigation information.

The Capitol Building was, of course, left a mess, once the coup failed and the insurrectionists filed out. They had left trash, debris, and human excrement. Who was left to clean up? Rep. Andy Kim (D-NJ), for one. After the business of the day, the tally of Electoral College votes, had been completed, Rep. Kim stayed. Trash bag in hand, Rep. Kim picked up trash into the wee hours of the morning.

A veterans group, disgusted by the news that some of their former brethren had been in the mob, organized a clean up around the Capitol grounds and throughout D.C.

And of course, the regular custodial staff that keeps the Capitol gleaming day in and day out. Mostly people of color, they bore the burden of washing the blood, sweat, tears, and shit from every surface in that building. There is a movement to write thank-you notes to them. If you write, I encourage postcards vs. letters. Postcards are safer and will be delivered more timely.

I've written numerous times about Officer Eugene Goodman, who used himself as a decoy to draw the mob away from the Senate chamber. Some lawmakers want to award Goodman a Congressional Gold Medal. Well deserved.

The Fourth Branch of Government: Corporate America. Heroes?!
Putting financial pressure on the wayward Members of Congress may help get the GOP back on track. Money talks and bullshit walks.

Here are a couple reads on how they are doing this.

Ok, ok, I'll allow Big Business getting into the people's business just this once. Next month, let's reverse Citizens United!

The Aftermath.
Impeachment trial calendar is still up in the air. It is possible that Speaker Pelosi will send the Article of Impeachment over immediately upon the 117th Senate's convening. It's the best way to do it: try him immediately. It may land on the Majority Leader's desk on Inaguration Day. They are smart people; I bet they can figure out a way to conduct a trial at the same time as they conduct other business.

Preventing him from running again. If the Impeachment2 doesn't work to convict, then Congress still has something in their back pocket. The 14th Amendment of the Constitution. It states:
No Person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice-President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any State, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any State legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any State, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. But Congress may by a vote of two-thirds of each House, remove such disability.
It's pretty straightforward, and needs just a simple majority vote. So if the Senate fails to convict him on his impeachment charge, the 14th Amendment could be enacted. Congress should also put it to use for the Members of Congress who participated.

A man* without a country (I hardly can even call ***** a man). He may have a hard time finding a place to live. Neighbors of his Mar-a-Lago estate, where he plans to go, don't want them there, and they may have him over a legal barrel because of an agreement he signed decades ago. Scotland has said, "Don't come here." He burned his bridges in New York all through the years with his odious behavior, and most recently when he left for Florida and started hating on them. Now, the Mayor of NYC says that ***** is not welcome there. My hope is that New York State and Florida cooperate to get him into cuffs on Day 1 of his civilianhood. There's plenty of room at the Graybar Inn.

A Day of Reckoning for the Republican Party. It will be interesting to see how they sort themselves out. The old saying about not being able to truly grow until you hit rock bottom may be true here. How rock-bottomer can they get? If they can purge the fringe members and vote to convict, they may start to right their ship.

Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) is moaning that if the Senate Republicans vote to convict, a third of the party will leave and destroy the party. And this is bad how.....?

Mike Luckovich

Security Measures forever changed? How long will we have concertina wire around our beloved beacon of freedom? When will it feel safe again? Our government operates openly and publicly. It's important that this tradition continues. How depressing is this photo?

The Investigation.
Here are some of the latest arrests from The Washington Post.

Here is a damn good source. You can follow every arrest, criminal charges, and court proceedings. Follow Sedition Tracker on Twitter or on the web. It's updated frequently. Great stuff! They're coming for you, traitors. “To those of you who took part in the violence, here’s something you should know: Every FBI field office in the country is looking for you,” said Steven M. D’Antuono, head of the FBI’s Washington Field Office. “As a matter of fact, even your friends and family are tipping us off.” (from WaPo)

Four federal departments, the departments of Justice, Homeland Security, Defense, and the Interior, have launched investigations into the security failures. Was it a lack of intelligence? Or a failure to act on the intelligence they had?

An investigation of the whole set of circumstances is huge. The lead-up and the insurrection itself is a large Fibonacci sequence intertwined with interlinking circles, overlaid by a set of Dali stairs. We know how federal agencies cooperate. They don't. There is a risk of numerous agencies involved in individual investigations not sharing information. I think there needs to be an independent commission to investigate the event in depth and deliver one comprehensive report on how this all came to happen. It was done after the Challenger disaster as well as after 9/11. Both of those tragedies were fairly straight lines compared to this. I'm suggesting this idea to my Members of Congress.

The Future. In the immediate future, we still face threats against the U.S.Capitol as well as state capitol buildings coast to coast. We're all on edge about the Inaguration ceremony. For the foreseeable future, the National Mall and Capitol grounds have fencing, razor wire (!) and 25,000 National Guard troops milling about. And those troops have authorization to use lethal force if necessary. States also have beefed up security and National Guard troops out in force.

We have a presidential President-elect in the on-deck circle. Biden is laying out plans for COVID response and economic stimulus. He is talking straight-talk to us. It's going to be be fine!

And speaking of presidential. V.P. Pence is acting all presidential the last couple days. He finally called and congratulated Vice President-elect Harris, and also made a surprise visit to the National Guard troops at the Capitol.

***** has decided he wants a dictator-style military send-off, complete with military band and 21-gun salute, on Wednesday morning. Given that there will be 25,000 armed troops standing around, he will have more attendees than he did at his inauguration. And he gets one more ride in Air Force One! Maybe the flight attendant will let him work the intercom!

Really? He leaves Washington burning and rides off into the sunset? I hope the Feds are waiting for him at the Palm Beach Airport when he lands. Hmmmm....Sounds like a good movie plot.... Can we cast Kevin Bacon as Christopher Wray?

For the longer term, we may be able to regain our course when the lies have ended and ***** is gone for good. We made a baby inroad into stopping the lies. The Washington Post reports that since ***** was banned from Twitter, misinformation emanating from the site has dropped a ton.

Speaking of which....

Corrections and a Cautionary Tale.
I've been proud of my research and dependence on least-biased sources, but lately with the frenzy of information about the January 6 Insurrection, I'm ashamed to say I made errors. I found myself where so many of the actual insurrectionists live. I posted a couple items that I need to correct.

In my last post, I shared a photo of Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) that had been miscaptioned as being taken in from of the Capitol the day before the riot. The photo was actually from December 2019 and was taken at the Colorado statehouse, not at the U.S. Capitol. The photo is real, though. And the people are really flashing white supremacy signs. I apologize for failing to fact-check this photo.

I also failed to research Melania's weird statement five days after the January 6 Insurrection, a statement that she turned around to make it about her. I got lazy in finding out more about her statement about "salacious gossip, unwarranted personal attacks, and false misleading accusations on me." Luckily, I have a good cadre of Sisters Resisters who pointed me to the correct info. Melania had been conducting a photo shoot inside the Whitewash House that day. She couldn't be bothered to pause for an insurrection of all things. CNN reported this fact. Also, Mel was probably steamed by an op/ed from an old pal.

I confess I also shared that video that Donny Jr. posted of a green-room party before the "rally" on January 6. It was miscaptioned as being taken during the riots. I believed the miscaption and shared it on a couple Facebook groups before learning that it was fake news.

I apologize for feeding misinformation here. The bigger point is that it is easy to get sucked in by provoking, but incorrect, information. If you don't keep skepticism intact and follow-up with a bit of research, misinformation and lies can quickly lead down a dark path.

We saw a culmination of that 10 days ago.

The Past.
I was a little Little Sister Resister when I made my one and only visit to the Capitol Building. My mom and I took a trip to Washington D.C. to visit my sister in 1975. Even then, I was honored to be able to visit the House and Senate Chambers. I aim to get back there and observe again. Here are my passes to the White House, Senate, and House.

The more recent past: In my post of October 29, 2020 which was titled, "Uneasy lies the head that wears the crown" I mentioned a report made by the Transition Integrity Project. The TIP is a bipartisan think tank group. They used gaming theory to predict outcomes after the election. Last summer, they published an extensive report of possible scenarios of a contested election.

Below is a quote from their report, released on August 2, 2020. (from page 6)
2. A close and contested election may be resolved through the exercise of power, not through the courts.
The scenario exercises developed by TIP were designed to encourage both the Biden and Trump teams to pursue plausible but aggressive actions in order to win. The exercises demonstrated that the very first “move” by each campaign was often decisive; it established a narrative and the overall strategy. In all four of the exercises TIP conducted, Team Trump immediately adopted a strategy of casting doubt on the official election results, even in the one scenario where he later accepted a loss. Team Trump also encouraged chaos and violence in the streets and aimed to provoke Team Biden into subverting norms — even as Team Trump itself sabotaged traditional norms— so that Team Biden could be accused of hypocrisy or illegality.
During the exercises, Team Trump and GOP elected officials took the following steps:
• Calling for recounts in all states in which victory was not already apparent.
• Launching coordinated investigations at the state and federal levels into alleged “voting irregularities” in an effort to undermine public confidence in results that did not go Trump’s way and/or alter the results.
• Attempting to halt the counting of mail-in ballots by filing cases in state court or leaning on Republican leaders to stop vote counting or to certify a result early, without waiting for the certified results from the Secretary of State.
• Turning out their well-organized and committed base to take to the streets in Trump’s favor, in part by disseminating disinformation about the danger posed by pro-Biden demonstrators (e.g., by suggesting likely Antifa violence, etc.).
• Relying on both FOX News and right-wing social media to echo and amplify pro-Trump messages and facilitate the harassment and bullying of election officials, to cause chaos and delay and/or to intimidate officials into taking actions that benefited Team Trump.
• Using federal agencies to justify or support Trump campaign tactics. In one of the more aggressive moves undertaken in one of the TIP exercises, Team Trump had Attorney General Bill Barr order the seizure of mail-in ballots to ensure that vote counting would stop.

And a memory from four years ago:

Facebook reminded me that four years ago today, we were preparing for our own protest. I had posted the above graphic. We, too, felt that an election had been "stolen" from us. ***** had garnered 3,000,000 fewer votes nationally, but was getting ready to occupy the office. But guess what? I was one of 750,000 marchers in Los Angeles, and there was not one. Single. Arrest.
